The Chevy Silverado 1500 comes with a revised engine lineup, and an updated features list for 2021. It is available in eight trims: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, LT Trail Boss, RST, LTZ and High Country. Let’s compare the Silverado 1500 WT to the Custom.
Silverado 1500 WT
The Silverado WT (Work Truck) is what its name says – a work truck. It is a perfect no-frills vehicle designed for getting the job done. The Work Truck is the only trim that is available with the Regular Cab, but Double Cab and Crew Cab models are also available. It comes standard with rear-wheel drive, a 4.3-liter V6 engine with 285-horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque that is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The WT is also available with a 5.3-liter V8 that makes 355-horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Lastly, a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine is available, making 310-horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can choose between rear- or four-wheel drive. Depending on your engine, the WT can tow from 7,900 to 11,500 pounds. Vinyl upholstery and rubber floor coverings are standard, as well as 17-inch steel wheels, a locking tailgate and 12 fixed cargo tie-downs. Technology features include a 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker audio system. Its safety package includes a rearview camera, forward collision alert, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking. A Work Truck package adds power windows and door locks, cruise control, power lock and release tailgate, and hitch guidance. Pricing starts at a base price of $29,300 and ranges to a starting price of $35,600 for the Crew Cab models.
Silverado Custom
The Silverado Custom is a step above the WT, but the standard and available engine options remain the same, as well as towing capabilities. The interior changes from vinyl upholstery to cloth and the floors are carpeted. In addition to the base WT trim’s features, the Custom trim upgrades to 20-inch aluminum wheels, black exterior accent pieces, LED bed lighting, front tow hooks, power and heated side mirrors, and a power-locking tailgate. Technology upgrades include a Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite radio, cruise control, a rear-seat reminder, and a remote start engine. Pricing starts at $36,500 for the Double Cab and $38,900 for the Crew Cab.
Overall
The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado provides plenty of power and features to keep your work on the road. The WT (Work Truck) is designed to work without all of the extras, whereas the Custom adds a few more conveniences and upgrades.
