A tale as old as time, the Chevy Tahoe vs the Ford Expedition. If you’re in the market for a new SUV, you want the best, and we want to help make that happen. We’ll break down both models to make sure you get just that.

Key takeaways

2025 Chevy Tahoe Exterior
  • The Tahoe isn’t the strongest vehicle around, but it comes close. While offering competitive strength, it has more than competitive fuel economy, making it our choice.
  • The Tahoe comes with similar, if not better features than the Expedition, and does it at a better price.
  • Both vehicles aim at keeping passengers comfortable, and they achieve this with tri-zone climate control. Helping everyone stay cool when the temperature soars.
  • With adaptive cruise control, you can take on the American highways with ease, and peace of mind.

Which has a more efficient engine: Chevy Tahoe

2025 Chevy Tahoe Exterior

The Ford Expedition comes with one engine option, and this is the 3.5L EcoBoost. At best, the Expedition has an EPA combined rating of 19 MPG. While this isn’t the worst, it definitely isn’t the best, either.

The Chevy Tahoe, and its engine option helps it sneak into first place. If you want the best engine for fuel efficiency on the Tahoe, then you’ll need the 3.0L Duramax Turbo Diesel engine. This engine has an EPA combined rating of 22 MPG. While the Tahoe does come with other engines, they aren’t as fuel efficient as the diesel engine.

Which has a better price: Chevy Tahoe

2025 Chevy Tahoe Interior

There’s many things that make a vehicle desirable, and price is the biggest thing for most people. If you want a model that is cheaper, but still comes with great features, the Tahoe is the way to go.

With a starting price of $61,195, this trim comes with some great features. Some of the features that you can look for are a large 17.7-inch LCD display, wireless phone connectivity, remote start, tri-zone automatic climate control, and adaptive cruise control.

Moving on to the Expedition, this model starts at $62,000. This model comes in a 13.2-inch center-stack touchscreen, tri-zone automatic climate control, and remote start.

Having a higher price, it would be reasonable to assume that you get better features, but the Tahoe proves to be better, and for less.

Which SUV is more capable: Expedition

The Tahoe can’t be the best at everything, and sometimes it’s better to give the competition a chance. The Expedition put all of its eggs in one basket, and that is with the engine. While it isn’t the most efficient, as stated earlier, it does come with some decent power.

The 3.5L EcoBoost engine can generate 400 horsepower, while the high output engine produces 440 horsepower. No matter the trim level, the Expedition can tow 9,600-pounds.

Being that the Tahoe comes with a few engines, we’ll take a look at the strongest one. This one is the 5.3L V8. This engine produces 355 horsepower, and 383 lb-ft of torque. Coming with a max towing capacity of 8,400-pounds.

Best 2025 full-size SUV? Why the Chevy Tahoe stands out

While it isn’t the strongest, it is more fuel efficient, and with prices of fuel today, this will be sure to stand out to most drivers. If fuel economy isn’t your main concern, the Tahoe comes with better features.
