Power, Fuel, and Price

All Sparks come with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that drives the front wheels. It produces 98 hp and 94 lb-ft of torque, and it is offered in a five-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission. With the gearless automatic, it manages power well without droning engine noise. With one of the lowest base prices in its class, the Chevrolet Spark starts at an affordable $13,220 and ranges to a starting price of $16,620 for the Spark 2LT. This compact hatchback offers efficient fuel economy, with 29/38 mpg city and highway for the manual transmission and 30/38 mpg for the automatic transmission.

Every Honda Fit comes with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, generating 130 horsepower and 114 pounds of torque with a six-speed manual gearbox. If you opt for a continuously variable automatic transmission you will have a rating of 128 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. This engine drones at high rpm, but getting up to high speeds on the highway takes some planning. Models with the manual transmission estimate 29/26 in the city and on the highway, and when equipped with the CVT, you will earn 33/40 city and highway. The base entry-level Fit LX trim has a starting price of $16,190 and ranges to a starting price of $20,620 for the Fit EX-L.
