2020 Chevrolet Sonic vs Hyundai Accent

Bigger isn’t always better. The 2020 Chevrolet Sonic is a small package featuring a big punch, with its style and turbocharged engine. The 2020 Hyundai Accent is another contender to compare. Let’s take a look.

Design

The 2020 Chevrolet Sonic is available as a stylish sedan or sporty hatchback. For a compact car, you’ll find the space inside you need, with roomy seats and plenty of cargo space. It gives you 14.9 cubic feet of trunk space; more than most compact sedans. The Sonic seats five people with a spacious second row that is easy to get in and out. The hatchback gives you even more space, with 19 cubic feet behind the rear seats. Fold the seats down and you will get a capacity of 47.7cubic feet.

The 2020 Hyundai Accent is only offered in a sedan. It boasts roomy seats, but could use a little more support. The Accent seats five people with a good amount of space in both rows; but it doesn’t compare to Sonic’s cargo space. It only offers 13.7 cubic feet of trunk space to carry your cargo. That’s below average for its class.

Power and Handling

Sonic provides quick, responsive handling to help you take on traffic; and fuel efficiency to keep you driving on the road. It’s performance and handling are better than many of its peers. It offers a standard Ecotec 1.4L turbocharged engine and 6-speed automatic transmission that gets 26/34 mpg city and highway. With its power, that’s an impressive number.

The Accent’s engine makes less power than the Sonic. With just 120 horsepower, the new four-cylinder engine and continuously variable automatic transmission is hard to get going. It doesn’t handle as well with its underwhelming acceleration and poor ride quality when the pavement gets rough. Fuel economy is rated at 29/39 mpg for city and highway.

For your safety, Sonic comes with 10 standard airbags and a rear vision camera. Other available advanced safety features include Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Parking Sensors.

The Hyundai Accent standard features include Bluetooth, a USB port, a four-speaker audio system, and a 5-inch touch screen. Available features include automatic climate control, two additional USB ports, a six-speaker audio system, a 7-inch touch screen, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. A rearview camera comes standard with available Forward Collision warning and Automatic Emergency braking.
